Our first Disney Park was Hollywood Studios. You see Disney isn't just fun and games....a trip to Disney requires months of planning some planning. And there are lots of resources out there for the overplanner (yeah that would be me!).
One is Tour Guide Mike. For a fee (a relatively reasonable one) Mike gives you tons of reviews and tips and even tell you what to pack in your back pack. I listened and boy was my back pack heavy...but even then I used everything I packed at least once on the trip.
Then there is touring plans. Jenn over at Mayhem Mania shared this tip and I listened to much of her Disney advice. Touring plans is similar to Mike, giving tips and advice on how to make the most of your time at the parks. Touring plans also has an iphone app that give you (again for a fee) lots of information at your finger tips. They provide menus, what type of service (Disney Dining Plan deserves its own post), wait lines on rides, what parks to avoid because of crowds...just so much stuff.
I took full advantage of all the tips touring plans handed out too. It was all very helpful...
Rule #1 -Get to the parks early. At least 1 hour to 3 minutes before the official park opening. Disney parks open 15 minutes before their posted opening time so you have some time to get to your favorite ride before the official park opening time. When we didn't follow this rule (and it only happened once) we paid for it!
Rule #2 -As soon as you get in the park, get your whole group to walk quickly (running at Disney is frowned upon) to your favorite (read most popular aka longest lines) ride. In this case that is Toy Story Mania. This ride does not disappoint. It was so much fun!!! It was fun for us big kids and the little kids.
Our quick walking paid off and we all walked right onto the ride. Afterwards we immediately fastpassed to make sure we could ride it one more time. What is fastpass you ask? Well fastpass is your guaranteed spot on the ride (cutting the long time) at a set time in the day. If you have to wait more than 30 mins for a ride on a popular rider you should fast pass the ride. But you can only fast pass one ride at a time..the Disney stuff, I told you you need to study up.
Our other (well Christian's) favorite ride was Star Tours. Star Tours is a Star Wars themed 3D ride where C3PO and R2-D2 take you for a wild ride. C3PO talked to us about it later in the week..(but that is another post)
So many fun things to do and people to meet in Hollywood Studios. This is Phineas and Ferb.
It was Star Wars weekend at Hollywood Studio so there was extra Star Wars stuff all around the park.
We also meet some of our favorite residents of Radiator Springs.
More Star Wars Fun!
Every afternoon we (Austin Wencks) would make our way out of the park and back to our cabin for a rest. By the end of the week the boys were begging for our rests.
Another piece of advice I read about when staying at Fort Wilderness is that renting golf carts was a MUST....those people didn't lie!
Our special dinners should really be an whole other post, but I'm on a roll (pardon the pun).
We had several special dinners while at Disney. Some were dinner shows like Hoop Dee Doo Revue, but some of the others were fun character dinners. This one was called Chef Mickey. It was a buffet at the Contemporary resort. During dinner we all had a chance to meet Donald, Mickey, Minnie, Goofy, and Pluto.
One day down.... Four more to go!!!
