Public Enemy #1

This is Wenck Household Public Enemy #1
(This isn't an actual picture of the possum in question and yes I didn't think of getting my camera, but didn't)
Last night we had an uninvited guess on our back porch. Why was he on our back porch you ask? Because he wanted his share of free food. You see it all started on Monday when Chris was at home with Christian. Before I left the house I asked him to do me a favor and dump the 40 lb bag of dog food into the bin we keep on the porch for Bob's dog food. The 40lbs is outside my limit of what I can lift while pregnant and I get into trouble when I left things that heavy. Well Tuesday, still in the bag...Wednesday still in the bag....Thursday still in the bag.

So I politely ask again (I really tried to be polite anyway). Chris says, "Yes, yes, I'll do it before I leave for work." So the top gets left off the lid in expectation of him putting the dog food in the bin.

So last night Bob starts barking and barking and barking. This is very odd behavior for Bob as Chris notes, there must be someone or something out back. So Chris goes out to see what is wrong. It takes a minute before he realizes there is a possum in the dog food bin, having a great dinner. This is when he quickly runs inside.

That is where the comedy commences. Two grown adults in there pajama's trying to scare a possum off the back porch. Funniest part was that we kind of forgot what possums do when they get scared. They play dead...or better yet...they play possum. They don't move thinking the
annoying 1/2 dressed adults will just leave them alone.

Picture this scene. Chris on the outside of the porch fence with a long pole for painting hitting the dog food bin, then me inside the house by a partially open window trying to squirt vinegar on the possum. (I wanted him gone, but not hurt.) I have no idea what the vinegar would have done other than is don't smell good and get sprayed with it can't be fun.

Then we think.....Well Bob has been barking like crazy at this possum, we will let him on the porch and hopefully that will scare Mr. Possum away....but NO!!! BOB is a SCAREDY DOG. I wasn't surprised really...he has always been the passive type. But he has a big bark when he is on one side of the fence and the possum is on the other...but he is too chicken to be on the same side of the fence with the possum.

Chris finally knocked the dog food bin over and the possum just moved to another hiding place on the porch among Christian's toys and wagon. The two 1/2 dressed adults gave up at this point. So that is where he stayed until about midnight we guess...because that is when Bob picked up barking again, but this time closer to the far fence in our yard. So I am guessing Mr. Possum moved a little in the night. And we think he moved a little further at 3 am because Bob was barking again....and then a little further at 5am, because YES..Bob was barking AGAIN!

I really hope we annoyed him enough not to come back.

Oh! and guess what Chris did 1st thing this morning?!?!!?!?. He put the 40lbs of dog food in the bin.

The big move

Well it is offical. Christian is sleeping in his new room, in his new bed.

The transition happened a little sooner than his Daddy or I had planned but it was a smooth transition.

It all started this weekend. Sunday night Christian finally caught the virus the rest of his class had all week. He was running a high fever and we knew he wouldn't be going to school the next day. Chris planned to stay home with him on Monday and work from home. So I got up on Monday morning, got ready and just headed into the office. When Chris went to get Christian out of his crib, Christian had some how pulled his diaper off during the night and peed on everything....and I mean everything. He pillow, his blankets, through his sheets, mattress pad, down to the mattress itself. Chris has enough on his hands with getting Christian bathes and cleaned up that he didn't have time to get everything ready when nap time rolled around. So Christian took a nap in his big boy bed. Then came his bed time that evening and the same thing. The crib just hadn't been put back together, so he slept in his big boy bed. Since then his has been sleeping in his big boy bed and doing great.

My biggest fear was that he would roam around his room during the night playing with his toys, but he doesn't. He stays in his bed when we leave the room at night and he is in his bed when we get him up in the morning. He is such a good boy!

On a side note. We have a birthday party to attend this weekend. It is our friend Tayler's 7th birthday. She is having a swimming party. So to get ready Christian needed some new swim clothes. We bought a suit with the built in life preserver. You can tell he thought we PICKED a good one.

Daddy Hold IT!

A routine has developed at our house. It is a night time routine. When 7:30pm rolls around we say "Christian is it time to go night-night." Then he starts looking around for his blanket (sounds like dank-it) and his pillow. Then he starts saying night-night firehouse, night-night dump trucks, night-night kitty, and on and on. Then are we head to his room he says "Mommy hold IT!" Which means Mommy pick me up and carry me to bed. Well sometimes we ask "Daddy hold it?" to which he answers "NO!, Mommy Hold it." Yes it melts my heart that I get to "hold it". Then we head into his room and we have a family hug. I hold Christian and Daddy hugs us both and we give Christian lots of kisses, which we get some in return. Then he gets put into bed to go to sleep. A nice routine.

Well last night Daddy and Aunt Sassy were busy loading furniture, so I took Christian outside to them to say good night. Aunt Sassy got a kiss and so did Daddy. And he said goodnight to them numerous times as we walked back into garage heading back into the house. Just about this time Christian realized that Daddy wasn't going to be in his room to say goodnight and just as we stepped to the garage door Christian said "Daddy Hold IT!"

It was cute because Daddy quickly told Aunt Sassy he would be right back. The "Daddy Hold It!" has lots of power because they are rarer than the "Mommy Hold IT!'s". So I know it must have melted Daddy's heart too to hear it.

1461 days

1461 days...that is how long it has been since this happened.
Then just a short 705 days, 20 hours, 34 minutes later this happened....

Now here we are in our happily ever after.

James 1:17 Every good and perfect gift is from above, coming down from the Father of the heavenly lights, who does not change like shifting shadows.

Run Sassy Run!

Aunt Sassy ran in the Austin Marathon this weekend. This meant she needed us cheering her on a little.

Christian designed a wonderful sign.

We woke up early and went downtown. We arrived around mile marker 6 at 7:45 am. Aunt Sassy and her friend Stephanie made it by at 8:30 am. Just when we thought we had missed them there they were.

Christian even ran with Aunt Sassy for a few steps.

I tried to make it back down to the finish line by myself to see her make it in, but again, I thought I had missed her and left too early. She finished the marathon in 6hours and 30 mins!

WAY TO GO AUNT SASSY!!!!!!!!!!! WE ARE SO PROUD OF YOU!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Here are all our pictures from the day.

Happy Valentine's Day

Christian had a very good Valentine's day. It all started when he woke up to cards and animals from his parents and grandparents. Then he received valentines from his school friends. The valentines came with lots of sweet goodies. We are saving most of them to enjoy later.

Mommy and Daddy had a nice dinner planned thanks to our local HEB. They were selling dinner and a movie. The perfect plan for a family with a 2 year old when Valentine's Day falls on a weeknight. Christian joined us for our candle light dinner, and he kept trying to blow out the candles.

Then Christian thought he would be Katy's Valentine. Daddy asked Christian to help him feed Katy her dinner and Christian did so with gusto!

HAPPY VALENTINE'S DAY !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Anniversaries

Anniversaries are funny things. We can have good anniversaries or bad anniversaries. I have one anniversary that makes me understand God's plan for my life. That anniversary is February 4th. The Date has 2 anniversaries for me.

The first is February 4, 1994. That is the day of my Dad's death. A hard day to deal with for many, many years. This was the day my Daddy Daddy died. I still miss him dearly and think often about how he would love today's world. He would love email and the internet. He would have a huge TV mounted on the wall. He would adore his grandson. I think he would love this blog and comment on it often. He would have funny stories to tell. Christian might even be calling me "Mommie Leroi"...who knows.

The second is February 4, 2002. That is the day I first met Chris. We consider this our anniversary, even though our first date wasn't for 2 more weeks and we didn't become "a couple" for many more months...this date holds very special meaning for us. It was the day God gave me another start. The next man to play a major role in my life. The man that would become my husband and the father of my children. He loves me and my crazy family just like his own. He is the Master of our family Budget and gives home improvement a good college try. He plays dump truck race with his son any time he is asked.....first thing in the morning, first thing after he walks in the door at night. He is always quick to play choo-choo train or make me a decaf, non-fat, caramel latter. He loves our little family and loves the little one to come.

So thank you God for blessing me with these men.

P.S. ~ Christian's original due date was February 4th, 2006.... Now does God have a great sense of humor or what!

More birthday pics

Julian's Daddy and our good friend David (over on the left) has a great new camera and take amazing pictures. We were lucky that he brought it along with him to Christian's birthday party. David sent us these great pictures. I know what some of you are thinking...more pictures?!?!? weren't there like 150+ last time. But my motto is you can never have too many pictures of the ones you love.
