Disney on Ice

This weekend we went to see Disney on Ice. It featured Lightin' and crew, the Little Mermaid, Lion King, and Tinkerbell. We went with Landonbuddy and Ethanbuddy and their Mommies.

Here is Mater coming out to help with Mickey and Minnie's car.

Here is the whole CARS gang on the ice.

Here is our slightly tired (needed a little longer nap) little guy with his Mater hat. Cissy is sitting next to him. She joined us and 3 out of the 4 buddies for the performance.

This is the finale with Tinkerbell. Very pretty and lots of flowers.

Earth Day 2010

Today is the 40th Anniversary of Earth Day.  Many (many) years ago when I was a senior in high school I worked on the school newspaper.  That year one of my news articles was about Earth day.  So to do my part I convinced my Dad to let me plant some trees.  He was happy to oblige me and I was gung-ho to dig the holes myself.  He bought 4 Texas Ash trees.  Now these weren't teeny tiny trees.   These were 4 BIG trees in BIG buckets that needed BIG holes.  This is when I learned a valuable lesson about Texas soil.  After you dig about 12 inches you hit limestone....hard, big, impossible to get around, limestone.  Needless to say I might have dug the first 12 inches of one of the holes for the trees.  My brother took on the task of the other 3 and 3/4 holes.   I think one tree was planted in just rock and never flourished like the others.

I am still very proud of those trees and that story.  See most Dads might have talked me into something smaller and more managable, but not my Dad.  He let me go for it and learn my own lessons and create my own story.

I still drive by my old house from time to time and I still Chris about this story everytime we go by.  The trees have gotten really big and one had to be taken out because they were over growing each other...but here they are, planted Earth Day 1990.

My Earth Day trees are the ones nearest the white trucks.  Looking good for 20 year old trees.

And just to go down memory lane a little more, here are more pictures of the house I spent my youth in.

There is a glimpse of the famous shed that caught on fire when I was in college.

and just for good measure, here is Tallie's old house too.

Progress

The rain last week and weekend slowed it down a little. But we are seeing some serious progress on our backyard. The patio is taking shape and the shed is getting a little foundation work too. We are hoping Mr. Elzie can find a good batch of sod and we will have a new backyard.

Goodnight prayers

Every night Christian and I say our prayers. He ALWAYS says "you go first". Tonight I went first of course...I had been feeling well today and was a little fast with my prayers. Then when it was Christian's turn he said "Thank you for Momma, Momma's beautiful hair,(about this time I gave him a kiss on the head), Momma's head, Momma's kisses, Momma's arm, Momma's brain, Archer, Daddy's stuff, Momma's head, and everyone. Amen"

Pretty sweet.

Bluebonnets

The boys had a sleepover with Gran and Pa last weekend. On our way home we stopped for a few bluebonnet pictures.

We always try for the good family shot.

Line Leader

I posted this on facebook, but thought I would preserve it here too.

Christian has been called the class clown more than once. He knows what to do to get a laugh, but sometimes he just says things in a sincere way that crack us up.

At school he sometimes comes home with a sticker that says "prayer leader" or "line leader" or "door holder". We have been asking him what his responsibilities are with each of these jobs. Well yesterday he came home with the sticker "line leader". I asked him where he leads people in lines.

His reply - "lunch, Starbucks, Target, HEB, that's only places I can lead you".

Easter 2010

Our first stop on our whirlwind Easter weekend was a playdate with Raphaal and his parents.

This is my favorite picture. It looks worse than it was (or at least it didn't get as bad as it could have) They really did play nice with the lite sabres.

Archer found a familiar friend.

Then a ride to the park with Memaw and DoDaddy.

Memaw and DoDaddy recently had their driveway resurfaced...very nice.

We had a nice grownup night out at the Symphony thanks to Memaw and Dodaddy.

We visited the Battleship Texas on our trip this weekend. The boys had so much fun. Christian climbed to the highest part of the ship we could climb to.

This is a recreation of a picture took as a kid.

Maybe my new favorite of Christian. I promise I didn't ask him to salute. I asked him to just stand by the sailor with his new hat on...he did the rest.

he was so brave!

They both make cute sailors too.

Picnic time

We always TRY to get a family picture. These might come back to haunt our boys later.

Then the cousins came to play!

Hopscotch!

She ended up going to 42

Rain brought the Easter Bunny inside

bunny lost his ears

Again, we try, sometimes are better than others..this one is pretty good.
Brotherly love!
