Birthday Weekend 2007

Well it was Chris's birthday weekend and boy were we busy. It started off with breakfast in bed. He requested biscuits with eggs, sausage and strawberries. He really liked it and let us know when he was "All Done". The main event of the weekend was dinner with some friends and some family. And if you are ever wondering what makes the perfect gift for a 34 year old man, might we suggest toilet seats. Not just one, but a set of two. They were a big hit at our party.



After dinner Julian stopped by for a little extra play time with Christian since they had both been such good boys at dinner. We had an impromptu jam session with Julian and his parents.



Sunday morning, Chris's actual birthday, Christian and I got up early and drove in to get the requested Kolaches from the Kolache Factory. Their bacon and cheese are really great. Then it was off to church and lunch. Chris got to pick the lunch spot and today's was BBQ at Railroad BBQ in Manchaca TX. After lunch we thought everyone might enjoy a nap, but instead it appears to be open season on hippos at our house.



After a little rest we all headed off to the Austin Children's Museum. Christian has a great time. We looked at bugs, slid down slides, played with water, built things, watched the choo-choo and played with some cows.



All and all a great weekend!

The kiss and the chase

This is enough to melt a Mommie's heart.



We call this the "Oh no!" chase. It can take a while, especially when you say "bye-bye Mommie" and "bye-bye Kitty" each time you go past them.

North comes South

This weekend we had fun with our North Austin (well more like north west of Austin) friends. We got the better end of the deal because they all travelled to our part of town.

First thing on Saturday morning we went to the Austin Zoo with our friend Julian and his Mommy and Daddy. The Austin Zoo isn't your typical zoo, it is a rescue zoo. They help rescue animals from neglectful and abusive situations.



The boys enjoyed walking around the zoo looking at all the animals.

Julian especially enjoyed the petting zoo.



While Christian had a blast feeding the Axis Deer.


However, Christian didn't like the Rooster hanging around so close.

About 2 seconds after this picture was taken the Rooster stretched his wings and got a little too close to Christian. He screamed and wanted to be picked up by Mommie immediately.

After the visit to the Zoo we had just enough time to get home, take a nap and then meet up with more North of Austin friends, the Petty's and the Wilson's for lunch at the Nutty Brown Cafe. It was a our way to help Krystal celebrate her birthday! Holy Cow it is Krystal's birthday!

After a yummy lunch, we ran a few errands. We were this close to going to Target to get a new alarm clock when we suddenly remembered...SALES TAX HOLIDAY WEEKEND. We remembed this when we saw the totally full Target parking lot. Okay, maybe a visit to Target can wait.

Then we headed off to Home Depot to buy a housewarming gift for another North Austin friend who has just become a South Austin friend. Yea!!!! score a victory for South Austin. Bonus points because now Daddy has a friend to watch Battlestar Galactica with .

All of this running around required a snack from Sonic to get us through.

Our Sunday was much slower paced. We finally made it back to church, had a easy lunch at home and were able to get some much needed chores done around the house.

Oooooooo I almost forget to mention the friend Daddy made this weekend.

Poolside

We had a fun time this weekend with our family visitors. Our cousins, the Thames, came to see us and visit "our Austin". We took them to all our favorite places. There was the Zilker Train ride, the snack at Sandy's, exploring toys at the Rootin' Ridge Toy Store, gelato at Teo's Cafe, a stroller around the Farmer's Market, the boys playing at the park, playing in the pool, yummy food from Texican, Culvers and Austin Pizza Garden.

We also learned there are some distinct traits passed down through the Wenck genes.
1. Not knowing that cucumbers and pickles are the same thing.
2. A love of 10-2-4 (aka Dublin) Dr. Pepper
3. A distain for salt and pepper.
4. A general inability to pick out movies their wives find interesting
5. The ability to have especially precious sons (with the help of some great wives ; )

Well I guess we will see. I just LOVE that new Brad Paisley song.

Not sure everything I'm going to do with this blog. Mainly it will be used to chat about the family (okay mainly the kiddo) and what we are doing these days.

So this summer we had one big vacation. It was to my beloved Pagosa Springs Colorado. I just love it up there. So nice and cool in summer. I have so many great memories of Pagosa in the summer with my grandparents. I just hope Christian has as many great memories of that place as I do.

This year we had a great time hot air ballooning, playing in the mountains streams and lakes, picnicing and seeing the train in Durango. It was nice and hard to come back to hot Texas.

But we have next year to look forward too (we hope) and I have lots of pictures to help me remember.
