Birthday events

Christian asked for BATMAN cupcakes for his birthday celebration at school.  Sassy stopped by to wish him a happy birthday while he and his school friends enjoyed their cupcakes. She also dropped off a present and so balloons.

Christian also received a present from Archer. Then we were off to the Lego Store.

Christian had a hard time making up his mind.  He didn't end up going home with these Star Wars kits.  He selected some ninja game guys.

Here he and Daddy are playing with his new ninja lego guys.

Dear Christian

Dear Christian,

As you turn 5 and become in your words a "big boy", I just wanted to write you a letter about the boy you are right now.

You love all things super hero. Batman, Spiderman, Iron, Superman, Justice League, Power Rangers. You seem to really like bad guys too. You like Joker, Penguin, Roughneck and Sportsmaster.

You have started talking with your hands, which I find very funny because I do that all the time. Grama Nita says if I sat on my hands I couldn't speak. You enjoy using silly words and not all of them I like. But that is normal. You can't wait to start soccer school and big boy school. Your best buddies are Rocky, Landon, Ethan, and Martin. Your little brother Archer loves to copy everything you do and say. He loves to take over your room and call it his, which you don't exactly like.

You are smart and you know it. You know how to count to 20, all your letters and numbers. You can spell and write your name. That is no small feet because you remind me all the time "Mommy my name is soooooo long". Sorry we didn't think about that more before we named you, but it will build your character and you are named after very special people.

You tell me all the time about how you were with God before he sent you to me and Daddy. You tell me about how you used to eat breakfast with God, I think you had donuts. You tell me you know I love you, just because I'm your Mommy and you are a big boy.

You have asthma and know when you need a breathing treatment. This is a big help to your teachers and Mommy and Daddy.

You like to have silly face, make funny noises and use silly words. This all makes for a very funny boy. You use the word actually a great deal. You enjoy asking questions and keep us on our toes with your conversations and inquiries.

You wake up early on weekends (around 6:00 or 6:30) but since you are such a big boy you come and ask to play in your room for a while...then you come and ask to play in the living room. We all soon join you, but we appreciate that you can play by yourself.

We love you big boy and can't wait to take you to the Lego Store tonight. Happy Birthday!!

Love,
Mommy

If he's anything like me - Christian's 5th birthday

Sometimes I think the soundtrack to my life is just one Brad Paisley song after another.   Maybe that is why I like his music so much, he writes about things I feel.

(Christian let me take these pictures tonight, his last night as a 4 year old.)
Anyway, here we are 5 years later...living the good life.  It is never dull and rarely very slow.  But it is a great life.  Christian is 5 and "a big boy now" according to him.  Ready for soccer school and big boy school.  The #1 thing he is most excited about though is a visit to the Lego's Store in the mall.  We promised that on his actual birthday we would take him there and let him pick out a present.  He has his site on something Batman related, surprising I know.

So back to Brad Paisley for a minute.  He has a song on his latest album called anything like me about having a son.  I see so much of myself in Christian and so much of Chris too.  Christian is starting to really talk with his hands..that is totally me.  He doesn't like vegetables...that is totally Chris (sorry honey couldn't resist).   God has a wonderful way to "paying back" the children for what they did to the parents.   He has really out done himself with Chris and I with Christian.

Here are the lyrics to the song. You can see my comments in (bold)

Anything like me
Brad Paisley

remember saying I don't care either way
Just as long as he or she is healthy I'm ok
Then the doctor pointed to the corner of the screen
And said "You see that thing right there well you know what that means"

And I started wondering who he was going to be
And I thought heaven help us if he's anything like me
He'll probably climb a tree too tall and ride his bike to fast (this is like his dad)
End up every summer wearing something in a cast (another one like his dad)
He's gonna throw a ball and break some glass in a window down the street
He's gonna get in trouble oh he's gonna get in fights (this one is both of us)
I'm gonna lose my temper and some sleep (this one is me)
It's safe to say that I'm gonna get my payback if he's anything like me (this is where God is laughing at us and enjoying this)

I can see him right now knees all skinned up
With a magnifying glass trying to melt a Tonka truck (if you know Christian, can't you see him doing this, I can)
Won't he be a sight with his football helmet on
That'll be his first love til his first love comes along
He'll get his heart broke by the time he's in his teens
And heaven help him if he's anything like me

He'll probably stay out too late and drive his car too fast (this is both of us)
Get a speeding ticket he'll pay for mowing grass
He's gonna get caught skipping class and be grounded for a week (this might be only his dad...because I never skipped school)
He's gonna get in trouble we're gonna get in fights
I'm gonna lose my temper and some sleep
It's safe to say that I'm gonna get my payback if he's anything like me

He's gonna love me and hate me along the way
Years are gonna fly by I already dread the day
He's gonna hug his momma, he's gonna shake my hand
He's gonna act like he cant wait to leave
But as he drives out he'll cry his eyes out (now this part gets me teary eyed and I always make Christian and Archer promise to cry when they leave home)
If he's anything like me there's worse folks to be like
Aw he'll be alright if he's anything like me (yeah this is both of us too)

I'm working on a video slideshow...coming soon.

In the mean time...Happy Birthday to my wonderful big little boy.  We love you so much!!!!

Before there was Facebook

Mom reminded me a few weeks ago that before there were blogs or facebook or email....there were plain old pictures.

And you would write your updates on them and mail them off.

First Video Blog - Why I blog

So my topic is taken from Jenn over at Mayhem Mania where she asks the question "Why do I blog".

I thought I would try out video blogging and show you a little of why I blog.

Video Blog Jan 2011 from teri wenck on Vimeo.

This is my first blog book, but I'm hoping to get more.  This first book starts in August of 2007 and goes through December.  I am hoping to have one printed for each year.

Editors commentary:
If I sound a little stuffed up it is because I'm having a little fight with the cedar.
If you are wondering why you can only see my hands and not my face, well it is early on a Saturday morning and I'm just now having my coffee, not exactly video ready.
I noticed that using the iphoto booth from the imac makes the book appear to be a mirror image.

Pa & ABCs

Here is a blast from the past... (i love you iMac). I was finding all the little videos I have taken over the years. This one is great because here Christian is probably very close to the age Archer is now. I always think the boys are very different little boys, but after watching this, i can see they are so similar.

2011

So we have a new computer and my goal is to be able to do so much more with it....that means more blogging! (hopefully).  Blogging got to be such a chore on the old system, it just wasn't any fun anymore.

Last night my worse fears almost can true.  I have the nice fancy new computer and I couldn't blog!!! OH THE HORROR!!!!  What would I do?!?!  I got so frustrated, but instead of taking it out on the nice new computer, I decided to go to bed and face the problem head on tomorrow (well that is today now).  But today I got on ready to implement plan B for blogging and it works..and works well.  So here we go.  I would like to present to you our first iMovie creation on our new iMac.  I think you will figure out what we are calling this one.
