Public Enemy #1

This is Wenck Household Public Enemy #1
(This isn't an actual picture of the possum in question and yes I didn't think of getting my camera, but didn't)
Last night we had an uninvited guess on our back porch. Why was he on our back porch you ask? Because he wanted his share of free food. You see it all started on Monday when Chris was at home with Christian. Before I left the house I asked him to do me a favor and dump the 40 lb bag of dog food into the bin we keep on the porch for Bob's dog food. The 40lbs is outside my limit of what I can lift while pregnant and I get into trouble when I left things that heavy. Well Tuesday, still in the bag...Wednesday still in the bag....Thursday still in the bag.

So I politely ask again (I really tried to be polite anyway). Chris says, "Yes, yes, I'll do it before I leave for work." So the top gets left off the lid in expectation of him putting the dog food in the bin.

So last night Bob starts barking and barking and barking. This is very odd behavior for Bob as Chris notes, there must be someone or something out back. So Chris goes out to see what is wrong. It takes a minute before he realizes there is a possum in the dog food bin, having a great dinner. This is when he quickly runs inside.

That is where the comedy commences. Two grown adults in there pajama's trying to scare a possum off the back porch. Funniest part was that we kind of forgot what possums do when they get scared. They play dead...or better yet...they play possum. They don't move thinking the
annoying 1/2 dressed adults will just leave them alone.

Picture this scene. Chris on the outside of the porch fence with a long pole for painting hitting the dog food bin, then me inside the house by a partially open window trying to squirt vinegar on the possum. (I wanted him gone, but not hurt.) I have no idea what the vinegar would have done other than is don't smell good and get sprayed with it can't be fun.

Then we think.....Well Bob has been barking like crazy at this possum, we will let him on the porch and hopefully that will scare Mr. Possum away....but NO!!! BOB is a SCAREDY DOG. I wasn't surprised really...he has always been the passive type. But he has a big bark when he is on one side of the fence and the possum is on the other...but he is too chicken to be on the same side of the fence with the possum.

Chris finally knocked the dog food bin over and the possum just moved to another hiding place on the porch among Christian's toys and wagon. The two 1/2 dressed adults gave up at this point. So that is where he stayed until about midnight we guess...because that is when Bob picked up barking again, but this time closer to the far fence in our yard. So I am guessing Mr. Possum moved a little in the night. And we think he moved a little further at 3 am because Bob was barking again....and then a little further at 5am, because YES..Bob was barking AGAIN!

I really hope we annoyed him enough not to come back.

Oh! and guess what Chris did 1st thing this morning?!?!!?!?. He put the 40lbs of dog food in the bin.
