This weekend the LEGO movie took in over $69 million dollars. According to report that is the 2nd highest February weekend box office next to The Passion of the Christ. We tried to get tickets of the long weekend (long weekend due to a bad weather day that really had no bad weather) but almost every show was sold out. We attended a birthday party on Saturday afternoon and many people at the party had already seen it. This movie was a HUGE draw for the 5-8 year old boy set that we run in.
Here is the trailer
And here is the song from the movie that will get stuck in your head.
This movie was a PERFECT movie for my family. PERECT! We all really enjoyed the movie. It was great for the kids and had plenty of laughs for the grown ups. Especially grown ups that live with LEGO now or did as a kid. And leave it to Alamo Drafthouse (the coolest movie theatre around) so show only LEGO related previews before the movie so I know where the name LEGO comes from. It really is a cool story.
I once hated LEGOs. I didn't get them. I didn't play with them as a kid. I was a Barbie Girl thank you very much. Of course now they have LEGOs for girls that my nieces love. In the last year I have grown to appreciate LEGOs. I helped Archer build 4 different sets over Christmas.
I'm an instructions follower though, not a master builder. What is a master builder you ask? A master builder can see the potential of other creative creations in the parts of every LEGO set. Chris is a master builder. I would get frustrated when the boys would complete a LEGO set, just to have it fall about while they played with it and have all those parts mixed up with other parts. According to Chris, that is the beauty of LEGOs. You use the pieces to make other cool things.
I'll stop here as I don't give any movie spoilers away, because there is a cool twist to this movie.
So my final review of the LEGO movie is that it is AWESOME ("Everything is Awesome. Everything is cool when you're part of a team"....see it just gets stuck in your head!)
