Money Lessons

Christian has been asking for a tablet (Kindle Fire, Nook HD, Ipad) of his very own for a long time now.  First he said he would just wish for one from Santa Claus this year and his dad and I said "Uh no! Your cousin Abby didn't get one from Santa Claus until she was 10".  Then we suggested he save up for it.  Well since January he has been saving and saving.  He and his Dad have looked at tablets at Target, Best Buy, on line...you name it.

He recent saw that a Nook HD was $129 (approx. $138 with tax).  He Dad let him know that just earning $129 wouldn't be enough to get the tablet, he would need to earn enough to also pay the tax on it.

Finally the day has come and he has earned $139.  It took looks of work on his part and some overpayment on his Gran's part, but he earned  it all by himself.  He did chores for us, he did chores for Gran, he saved pennies he found around the house and on the floor.

He now has a sense of how much things cost, how long it takes to save up "a lot" on money and that you have to do things to earn money.  Hopefully this is one life lesson he won't soon forget.
