Kick off to 40

We have a treat this weekend.  Sassy and Uncle Jonathan were very gracious to watch the boys for the whole weekend while we kicked of Chris' 40th birthday month.  Friday during the day Sassy picked up the boys at school, so that meant we could stay in town and catch some dinner and live music.  Our night started at South Congress Cafe for dinner, then we made our way to the Continental Club for the Blue Specialist Happy Hour.

IT was awesome!!!!! (we might make it a regular stop when the boys have friday night sleepovers).

(Here is Chris with the 2 of the guys from Blue Specialist)

Chris runs into a childhood friend from Kingwood that works at CC just about the time we are leaving. We chat with him a while...while chatting he mentions Jimmy Vaughn is playing upstairs at the CC Gallery (I catch this, Chris doesn't). We go back into the Continental Club to hear the next group...we aren't feeling it so we head out again and say ok, lets go up to the Gallery. There I see Jimmy Vaughn front and center and the music is more our style...we grab some chairs near the front door (by door guy).
Chris loves the music and 20 mins in leans over to Door Guy and says "Wow these guys are great, who's playing?" Door Guys says "Well that's Jimmy Vaughn standing in with Mac Flanigin and Frosty" Chris leans over to me with a huge excited face and says "THAT'S JIMMY VAUGHN" I said "YEah I know, Pat mentioned it downstairs, pretty cool huh?!" He sits there like a kid in a candy store all night long grinning from ear to ear saying that this is the best 40th birthday present ever!!!

A great Blues singer (Mac McIntire??) that was just there to listen even gets up to sing with the trio. The whole bar sings back and forth with him on a song. During the set break Jimmy V come nears us to check out the rain. Chris gets to shake his hand, and chat a minute (Jimmy V was super nice guy). At the end of the night Chris gets a chance to say hello to each trio member and shake their hands. Guess that isn't a bad way to kick off the "count down to 40!'
