Mathilde “Tillie” Greenwood of Wichita Falls died Saturday, March 21, 2009.
The memorial service will be conducted at 3 p.m. Saturday, March 28, 2009, in Riverside Cemetery with The Rev. Scott Wooten, officiating. In the case of inclement weather, the service will be held at The Episcopal Church of the Good Shepherd. Arrangements are under the direction of Owens & Brumley Funeral Home of Wichita Falls.
A daughter of the late Ben and Mathilde Donnell, she was born December 5, 1911. She was a graduate of Wichita Falls High School, Wichita Falls Junior College and the University of Texas, where she was a member of Kappa Alpha Theta sorority. She was married to Arch Anderson Greenwood on April 11, 1936, in Wichita Falls. The marriage was blessed with a son and daughter. Tillie and her family moved to Houston in 1962, when Arch became a sales representative for Wilson Manufacturing, a local company. They moved back to Wichita Falls in 1970.
Mrs. Greenwood worked with her husband at Greenwood Photography. Both Arch and Tillie were involved in the activities of their children. Tillie gave very special volunteer hours to the PTA and Campfire Girls. She played the violin with the first Wichita Falls Symphony Orchestra. She was involved in the work of the Episcopal Church of the Good Shepherd, where she was a member of the Datson Guild, Daughters of the King and Episcopal Church Women. She was a dedicated volunteer and member of the Board of Directors at Southside Girls Club and received the National Girls Club Distinguished Service Award.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Arch Greenwood; her sister, Mary Elizabeth Harvey; brothers, Bill Donnell, Ralph Donnell and Ben Donnell; and by her sister-in-law, Hazel Hampton Greenwood.
Survivors include her son, Mark Greenwood of Wichita Falls; daughter, Ann Wenck and husband, Charles of Kingwood; grandson, Chris Wenck and wife, Teri of Austin; great-grandsons, Christian Wenck and Archer Wenck of Austin; granddaughter, Deborah Choate and husband Jack and great-granddaughters, Abigail Choate and Emilie Choate, all of Huntsville; brother-in-law, Bob Greenwood of Annapolis, Maryland; sisters-in-law, Phyllis Donnell of Marble Falls, Ernestine Donnell of Austin, and Ruth Donnell of Wichita Falls; and sister, Jennie Boone of Wichita Falls. Her grandchildren added much love to the last years of her life.
